Ruth Pearl Richardson Smith, 90, of Ames passed away on August 30, 2024 at her home.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 1403 24th Street, Ames. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Ruth was born on January 27, 1934 in Decatur County to Simeon E. and Nancy Beck Richardson. She grew up in Decatur, Iowa and married Joseph R. Smith on December 16, 1951. They were the parents of two children: Allen Raymond Smith and Michael Dwane Smith. The family moved to Ames in 1955, where Ruth worked at Hach Chemical for 25 years. She retired in 1996.

She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. Ruth enjoyed cooking and entertaining. She was blessed by her family and many friends.

Ruth is survived by her children: Allen (Diane) Smith, and Michael Smith of Ames, Iowa; grandchildren, Jake and Coy (Amy) Smith, and Heather (Matt) Bueltel; step grandchildren, Rick (Misty) Sorensen, Scott (Terri) Sorensen, and Angela Timp (Jim McDonald); great-grandchildren, Eden, Avery and Logan Bueltel, Bryson Smith, and Alec Smith; and step great-grandchildren, Tyler Timp, Dalton Timp, Gracie Timp, Amanda Sorensen (Rob Ackerman), Drake Williams, Kourtney Williams, Travis Sorensen, T.J. Sorensen, Callie (Donovan) Reed, and Cody Deaver (Cristela Montes); and several great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Joseph; brothers, Irvin, Sylvis, Scottie, Harland and Max; a sister, Emma Thorpe; half-brother, John Richardson; sisters, Dorothy Davis, Margaret Robbins, and Edith Meyers; half-sisters, Vina Wells, Nellie Parkast, Mary Zimmerman, and Stilla LaFallstte.
