Lois A. Koenig, 92, of Fairbury passed away on August 28, 2024, at the Jefferson Community Hospital in Fairbury. She was born September 1, 1931, at Beatrice, was baptized at Peace Lutheran Church, rural Plymouth and later confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jansen. She graduated from Fairbury High School in 1949. She married Lester Koenig on August 6, 1950, at Trinity Lutheran, Jansen and they lived at rural Plymouth before moving into Plymouth in 1968. She worked in the accounting department at BSDC for over 27 years from 1969 – 1996 and then was a childcare provider at Kiddie Campus and Rainbow World. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, rural Plymouth. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, was a member of Mission Circle, and was a 4-H leader. She enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, Nebraska football and volleyball, and spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include daughters, Linda (Kenneth) Schwan of Western and Judy (Jerry) VanOosbree of Adams, MN; son, Douglas (Laura) Koenig of Western; son-in-law, Bruce Haney of Glenpool, OK; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Marcella (Glenn) Koca of Papillion; brother, Dale Grummert of Fairbury; brother-in-law, James Koenig of Papillion; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Hattie (Krause) Grummert; her husband, Lester, who died on October 9, 1974; son, David Koenig; daughter, Mary Haney; sister, Phyllis Grummert; brother, Kenneth (Arlene) Grummert; sisters-in-law, Marlys Grummert, Ione (Merlin) Bessler, Marilyn Koenig and Francie Koenig.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Peace Lutheran Church, rural Plymouth with Pastor Chuck Bentjen officiating. A family prayer service will be held at 10:45 A.M. on Friday at the church. Burial will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday at the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. The body will lie in state on Thursday from 11:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice.
