Grace Mary (nee Zampella) Caputo, 94, entered the Big Casino in the Sky on Friday, August 30, 2024, surrounded by family .
Grace was the devoted wife to her late husband Rico (Americo) Caputo for 66 years. Grace was born in Jersey City on March 7, 1930, and was a proud Bayonne resident the majority of her life. She was the last surviving child of Margarita and DomenicoZampella and her 9 brothers and sister, Aniello (Mary), Vito (Eva), John (Louise), Alphonse (Helen), Joseph (Francis), Samuel (Mary), Anna (Edward) and her favorite, Anthony.
She was a long time Hudson County employee, serving in various departments including secretary to former Commissioner Ed Clark. She previously held secretarial positions throughout Hudson County for various concerns.Grace was very active in Our Lady of Assumption Church as a member of the St. Ann’s Society and a Den Mother with Cub Scout Pack 27.
Grace had an infectious laugh, sardonic wit and love of comedy, no doubt from being married to Rico for 63 years. They shared a love of travel. On their honeymoon, they drove to Mexico before there were interstate highways. They visited Italy several times, and travelled throughout Europe. One of their most enjoyable trips was the one where they recreated the route Rico took back to Italy when he went AWOL from the U.S. Army while stationed in Austria.
In their latter years, they loved spending their children’s inheritance while visiting the casinos in Atlantic City ,Pennsylvania and Las Vegas.
Grace is survived by her son Anthony (late Mary Finnerty) ,daughter Angela and husband Richard Testa, their children Richard and wife Candice Testa, and Toni Ann and husbandWilliam Hons. She is also survived by her many loving brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Her grandchildren were the light of her life.
No problem was too big, never sweating the small stuff. She lived by her motto, “This too shall pass.”
