Ruby was born in Proctorville NC to Eddie Foncie Jones and Fannie Liza Washington. The family migrated to SC after the death of Ruby’s father. She attended school in Lake View SC and worked hard on the farm with her mother and brother (Buster Jones).
Realizing she could not provide for her to children as she wanted she chose to embark on a journey to New York City. She was among the many who went into an unknown city all alone seeking employment without knowing where she would live or get her next meal. She trusted God and he helped her land with a wonderful family (the Kliens). She worked and lived in New York for 40 years always sending money back to her mother Fannie Reaves to support her and Ruby’s two children. Knowing her family was dependent on sharecropping for shelter Ruby was determined to build her mother a home. In successfully accomplishing this she changed trajectory of the family forever.
While in NY Ruby met and married Lee Vester Davis. They were blessed in a loving marriage until his death in 1989. Shortly after her husband’s death she moved back to her beloved home in Lake View.
In these later years she enjoyed many trips, outings, and gatherings with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Family brought her much joy as she shared many days with her brother (Buster) sitting on her porch. She also spent later years in the daily care of her daughter and son who loved her dearly.
Preceded in death by her brother Buster in 2021, on August 30, 2024 Ruby answered the call from Heaven. She leaves to cherish her loving memories a daughter Fannie Mason, a son James Pop Jones of the home, a step son Lee Vester Davis Jr. of Little Washington, 5 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren, a beloved nephew, beloved niece along with many great nieces and nephews.
