It is with deep sorrow that we share the news of our beloved mother, Marcia Rae's, passing. On the evening of August 26, 2024, she peacefully left us at her home in beautiful McCall, Idaho, after living a full and vibrant life. In her final moments, Marcia was surrounded by the love of her five children and family.
Marcia Rae was born to Oscar and Edmerica Newman on July 29, 1931. Born and raised in Boise, she was the first female lifeguard at the historic Boise Natatorium. She attended Boise schools, where she met her soulmate, John “Jack” S. Anderson, at North Jr. High School when he playfully put her pigtails in the inkwell—an early testament to the lifelong commitment he would make to her. Marcia graduated from Boise High School in 1949. She and Jack married in 1950 and raised their five children in Boise and Coeur d’Alene.
Her true passion was genealogy, a field in which she excelled throughout her life. Marcia tirelessly uncovered hundreds of stories, not only about her own family’s history but also that of her husband Jack, ensuring that their children and future generations could benefit from the rich tapestry of their shared heritage. Her extensive research not only connected the past to the present but also provided a rich legacy of history for her family to cherish for generations.
Her travels with Jack took her across the globe, from the Philippines to Egypt, where she continued her genealogical pursuits, always eager to add new chapters to her family’s story.
Beyond her love for genealogy, Marcia was a talented needlepoint, crochet, and handiwork artist, with her beautiful creations proudly displayed in her family’s home. She was also an avid Bridge player, known for her sharp mind and love for the game.
Marcia’s life was a testament to her devotion to family history and the art of storytelling. She leaves behind a legacy of carefully preserved memories, creative artistry, and a deep sense of connection to the past.
Marcia will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her and learn from her vast knowledge of family history.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack, and her grandson, Maxwell John Anderson. Marcia is survived by her five children: Kevin (Boise), Kerry (Lewiston), Cheryl (McCall), Mark and his wife Sheri (Boise), and Stacie (Boise). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Salvador and Heather Banuelos (Sal, Sydney, and Olivia), Bryan Funk (Camdynn), Brett Funk, Dr. Jamie Funk, Chris and Erin Anderson, Corey Anderson (Berkeley and Baylor), Chase Anderson, Chelsea and Nikk Reinhardt (Kaden and their expected daughter).
