It is with heavy heart that the family of Richard (Dick) Albert Van Deusen share the news of his passing on August 3rd, 2024. Dick is survived by his wife of 52 years Lynette Van Deusen; Son Peter (Deborah); Son Doug; Daughter Sunny Triggs (Roy); Daughter Leslie Nicholas (Peter), Daughter Jenny Cole; and daughter Becky Hogue (Alan); 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
A resident of Bend, Oregon for the past 28 years, Dick served as Faithful Navigator of the Knights of Columbus at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, as a member of Demort, which is part of Homeland Security, serving at Katrina as a mortician as well of other assignments. He was Exalted Ruler of Caldwell Elks Lodge #1448 in Caldwell, Idaho and served on the Board of Nottingham Square HOA,
Dick was born in Gresham, Oregon and graduated from Gresham High School in 1957. After high school, Dick attended Oregon State University and graduated in 1961 with a degree in Agriculture. As an Agronomist, Dick loved dirt. He worked for several chemical companies and then a dream came true with the Van Deusen Ranch /Flag Farm in Homedale Idaho. Here he did in house research farming for the University of Idaho and large chemical companies. When the EPA put in environmental pest management controls Dick once again changed gears.
Upon leaving the Agri business he went back to school at San Fransico School of Mortuary Science Graduating (Cum Laude) and became a Mortician /Funeral Director. After retiring from Niswonger Reynold Funeral Home in Bend, Dick created Mortvac. Being licensed in three states Oregon, Idaho and California, Dick was able to travel and serve communities in need of a contract Mortician / Funeral Director. He ended his career in Bend contracted with all the local funeral homes.
He loved Central Oregon and all it had to offer, as avid outdoors man he loved skiing, hunting, canoeing, fly fishing, golf and hiking all which brought him constant pleasure.
A Rosary and Mass will be celebrated at St Francis of Assisi Historic Catholic Church on Franklin Ave. September 10, 2024, at 9:00 AM. Reception will follow at the Bend Elks Lodge #1371. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations in Dick’s name to St Francis of Assisi Historic Church Renovation Fund.
