HELEN RUTH was born to parents Pearline Umble and Tracy Fred Mims on
September 10, 1937, in Teague, Tx and gained her wings on August 17, 2024, in
Fort Worth, Tx. She received Christ at an early age under the spiritual
guidance of her grandmother Helen Pelton.
Helen was a basketball elite and graduated from Booker T. Washington
in Teague, Tx class of 1956. She was a member of the Heroines of Jericho
society alongside her mother and aunts.
In high school, Helen met a young man named Ernest Lee Carter. The
two were married in 1956 and moved to Fort Worth, Tx. She was a devoted
wife to Ernest for 68 years and became a mother of three children:
Ernest Wayne (deceased), Jacqueline Yvonne and Earnestine.
Helen retired from St. Joseph Hospital central supply in Fort Worth, Tx
and followed HER call to serve others, frequently visiting the sick,
shut-in and bereaved with compassion and comfort.
Among a host of family, Helen joined the Concord Baptist Church
under the pastoralship of Rev. Dr. Charles W. Gillespie in 1984. She served
as president of the Women's auxiliary group and on the deaconess
board. Her passion beyond serving others was her service to the Lord in
song as a faithful member of the Concord Baptist Church choir.
She is survived by her daughters, Jacqueline Cooper and
Earnestine Jackson, son-in-love James Jackson,
grandchildren (Corey Moore, Sheree Carter, Charles
Cooper Jr., Blaire Jackson), 12 great grandchildren and 1
great great grandson along with countless nieces,
nephews, cousins, family and friends. of whom she loved
endlessly.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents,
aunts (Modine and Mary Frances), brother (Fred Mims),
son, first cousins (Joe"Bubba", Wanda and Zettie Ruth) and
great great grandson (Omari Cruz Moore).
