JoAnne M. Coleman Obituary

Joanne Michelle Coleman, 56 of Amelia, Virginia peacefully departed her earthly life at VCU Medical Center on Saturday, August 24, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her the most. Joanne is preceded in death by her grandfather, Bossie Fitzgerald and uncles, Bossie Fitzgerald; James Fitzgerald, Sr.; and Robert Fitzgerald. Joanne was born on August 26, 1967, to Mary L. Fitzgerald Worsham and Otis Worsham in Richmond, Virginia. She is the third of four siblings. She was the shortest in statute; however, she had the biggest heart. She always had a listening ear and was always willing to assist in any way that she could. Even amid fighting her own medical battles, she always was there to support her family and friends who sought medical advice or any advice from her. Joanne attended and graduated from Amelia County Public Schools (Class of 1985) and attended the Amelia-Nottoway Technical Center where she studied nursing. While attending ACHS, Joanne and Kelvin became high sweethearts and dated for 10 years. In 1994, Kelvin and Joanne were married in front of close friends and family. Over her life, Joanne was employed in numerous medical centers including Johnston-Willis Hospital and in numerous positions within those medical centers. Joanne lived an abundant life loving her family and friends. Most importantly, she knew God and did not mind telling those of the works that he did in her life. Joanne accepted Christ and was baptized at Manassa Hill Baptist Church at an early age. She served on various committees in the church including Church Clerk, President of the Youth Ministry, President of the Usher Board, and Sunrise Service Vice Secretary. Joanne also served on the Missionary Ministry, Hospitality Ministry, Choir Ministry, and Watch Night Committee. Joanne played a vital role in the Springhill Ushers Union where she held various positions over the years. Joanne is survived by her loving and devoted husband and daughter, Kelvin and Demetria (Jaron whom she loved like a son); grandchildren, Kamya, Kali, and Kamryn Jefferson and Jashya Gass; her parents, Otis and Mary Louise Worsham; grandmother, Mary Daisy Fitzgerald; three sisters, Joyce Fitzgerald, Jacqueline Fitzgerald, and Janet Worsham (with the addition of two brothers and one sister); Mother-in-law, Pontgine Archer; Father-in-law, Ernest (Katie) Worsham; one brother-in-law, Quincy (Tara) Tucker; two sisters-in-law, Felicia (Patrick) Thomas and Rolonda (Gerald) Morrison; aunts and uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members and friends.
