Brenda Marilyn Dunn (née Chafe)

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Brenda Marilyn Dunn (née Chafe), age 73, announces her passing on August 25, 2024, in Calgary, Alberta. The loss was sudden and unexpected; family and friends are profoundly saddened. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her family.

Brenda was predeceased by her parents, Leslie and Gertrude, and her brothers, Bob and Rick. She leaves to mourn her devoted and loving husband, Randy, of 54 years; her sons, Trevor (Claudine), Adam (Jennifer), and Corey (Jessica); and five loving grandchildren, Liam, Abigail, Noah, Michael, and Brea. Sharing in our sorrow are her sisters, Linda Crowther (Kelvin), Carol Day (Bob), Barbara Hart (Russ), Cathy O’Brien (Phil), and her brothers, Ron (Janet), Harvey (Brenda), and Ken Noel (Cari), along with her sisters-in-law, Sandra and Cathy Chafe.

Brenda loved her word games, especially Scrabble. She also enjoyed gardening and spending time in her backyard in Mt. Pearl, as well as her Friday date nights at home with her husband, favorite music, and her Chardonnay. In 2017, she made the very difficult decision to leave her beloved Newfoundland and move with Randy to Calgary to be with her sons and grandchildren. While in Calgary, she cherished the time spent with her grandkids and was very proud of the individuals they have become.

The family would like to give special thanks to the Foothills ICU nurses Emily and Jessica, and Dr. Couillard. In addition, thanks to the Oncology Unit at Foothills and the Complex Care Center at PLC Hospital.

Visitation will take place at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Ave, Mt. Pearl, on September 3 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and also on Wednesday, September 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at Barrett’s Chapel on September 4 at 1:00 p.m., with interment to follow.

Flowers are accepted, or donations in her memory can be made to The Autism Society of Newfoundland or Chrysalis, an Alberta society for citizens with disabilities.
