Iron Mountain- Fred R. Cheshire, 87, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away Friday, August 16, 2024, at the Oscar G Johnson VA Medical Center, following a brief but devastating bout with cancer.
He was born April 28, 1937, in New Castle, Indiana, son of the late Raymond and Merian (Harlan) Cheshire. Upon his high school graduation Fred entered the United States Navy and served four years. A number of changes in his duty brought Fred to serve on the USS Franklin D Roosevelt. Following his honorable discharge, he pursued a number of jobs, increasing his vast knowledge. Fred then entered college in Lansing, Mich. at Michigan State. This is where he would hone in on his knowledge and unique precision in his architectural world of landscaping, his knowledge of plant material, and of design.
Fred was a master “Bar None”. He created beautiful landscapes here and in other cities and states for clients. The one thing Fred left one with whether pruning a plant or placing a final item of design, was “Take your time-Stand back – Look- Before you make decisions”.
Fred was a respectful, quiet, mannerly man, always a gentleman. He will be deeply missed but the legacy he left gives all who knew him, each a day of beauty.
Fred is survived by his love of 35 years, Myrna; his sons, Shaun Cheshire of Allegan, Mich., and Shane (Amber) Cheshire, of Lake Charles, Louisiana; daughters, Kerri Steeno of Iron Mountain, Mich, and Julie Rouse of Corcoran, Minn.; grandchildren, Cassandra (Joe) Ross, Kenyan (Samantha) Cheshire, Steven Hartman, Aubrey Leigh Behnke, Lucas, Carrie, and Peter (Mary) Behnke; great-Grandchildren, Jayden, Maddison, and Luca Jane. He is further survived by Paula and Vern Trinoskey, as well as nieces Belinda Scott and Robyn (Harold) Dowell.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain, Michigan.
