Gene passed away peacefully on August 25th, 2024 at the age of 80. He was born in Lithuania on June 11th, 1944. He endured a long journey to the United States through Germany, Argentina, and Michigan before settling in Indiana where he spent his teenage years. When he was 18 his parents moved to Illinois but he remained in Indiana to attend Purdue University where he completed his studies in engineering. After school he moved to Illinois where he met his wife Rima. They were married for 54 years together. Gene worked as an electrical engineer with a focus on programmable controls. Gene was a family man that loved being a son, husband, and father. Family was more important to him than anything. He was most proud of his wife Rima. Every morning before Rima would wake up he would prepare breakfast & coffee for her. Nothing gave him more joy than his son, Vytas (Natalia) and his grandson, Sebastian. Seeing them together or just hearing him speak of them you would notice Gene instantly perk up. He valued preparation - he was someone who would always read the manual before jumping into something. Gene owned 5 dogs throughout his lifetime that he loved to take on walks through the forest preserve. He enjoyed watching movies, especially action movies and WWII related films or documentaries. Gene and his wife also enjoyed traveling, with their travels taking them to four continents including: Europe, Africa, South America and North America.
Gene was preceded in death by his mother Regina and his father Tadas. Gene is survived by his wife Rima, his son Vytas (Natalia), his grandson Sebastian and his brother Leo (Christie). He is also survived by numerous relatives in Lithuania and the United States. He will be dearly missed by those who have survived him but cherished in their memories forever.
