STAUNTON – Sandra Kay Carroll, 67, of Staunton, passed away Sunday (August 25, 2024) in Augusta Health.

Sandra was born in Staunton on December 12, 1956, a daughter of the late William Forest Carroll and Cleo Jane (Puffenbarger) Carroll. She was a graduate of R. E. Lee High School. Sandra was employed by Food Lion as a scan analyst for 29 years prior to retirement. She loved her Food Lion family and continued there as a part-time employee after her retirement.

A life-long member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Sandra served as Sunday school teacher, choir member, and assisting minister among numerous other roles.

Sandra was a gifted musician, and enjoyed playing piano and singing for many weddings. She was also skilled in creative needlework, especially crocheting, and she enjoyed gifting her handmade items. She was a genuine and kind-hearted daughter, niece, cousin and friend.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents; three aunts, Virginia Armstrong, Neva McCray and Grace Simmons; and three uncles, Granville “Sterl” Puffenbarger, Elvin “Bill” Puffenbarger and Dolen Puffenbarger. She is survived by an aunt, Myrtle Anderson of Hampton; a special aunt by marriage, Betty Puffenbarger of Swoope; and a number of very dear cousins.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, August 31 at Bear Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 1 in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor Rod Ronneberg. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Mr. Dan Pritchett, Sandra’s beloved former Food Lion manager, will assist with her committal service.
