Obituary: DONALD L. DAVIS
Donald LaVerne Davis, the son of Lyman “Verne” and Francis (Cole) Davis was born in Douglas, Nebraska on December 9, 1929 and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska on August 17, 2024 at the age of 94.
Don graduated from Filley High School. He then went on to the University of Nebraska where he received his Bachelor's Degree. Following his graduation, he served his country in the United States Navy. After his discharge he returned back to Nebraska and raised dairy cattle south of Lincoln.
Don was united in marriage to Janis Munn on October 30, 1954. In 1959 they moved to Aurora where Don owned and operated Davis OK Tire Store until his retirement in 1989. Don and Janis were so happy to live in the Aurora community and they considered it the best place to raise their family.
Don was a longtime member of the Aurora United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion, and proudly served on the Lester S. Harter Post #42 Color Guard. He was a dedicated member of the Aurora Volunteer Fire Department. He treasured those experiences and friendships.
Golfing, gardening, grilling, spending time with family and friends were among his favorite activities. Every February he started raising bedding plants and every spring he gave away thousands of Impatiences. Every November he made his own special recipe of peanut brittle which he gave away during the holidays.
Donald L. Davis was hardworking, fun loving, kind, generous, a good story teller, helpful and determined. Most of all he was a loving husband and father.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Scott Hannon, son-in-law, Steve Leach, sister Dorothy Jobes, and brother Bruce Davis.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janis Davis of Aurora, son, John (Lorrie), Davis of Lincoln; daughters, Donelle Leach of Lincoln; Judy (Steve) Hannon of York; and Laurie Garrison of Soldotna, Alaska; 11 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-law John (Linda) Munn of Lincoln, sister-in-law Eddie Ranson of Soldotna, Alaska and many other family members and friends.
