THE LORD IS MY LIGHT AND MY SALVATION; WHOM SHALL I FEAR? THE LORD IS THE STRENGTH OF MY LIFE OF WHOM SHALL I BE AFRAID.
THE BEAUTIFUL, VIVACIOUS DOROTHY ANN KNIGHT WAS BORN IN BILOXI, MISSISSIPPI, ON FEBRUARY 22,1934, TO THE LATE MAJOR HUMPHREY & SADIE BELL HUMPHERY.
DOROTHY means GOD’S GIFT. She was raised as a young girl by her grandmother Nan and her grandmother’s sister until she was 14 on a beautiful Pecan Farm in a large white house. At 14, she moved to Biloxi to live with her mother, Father, and siblings.
She met and married Harvey Lee Knight on July 5, 1949. Their union was blessed with nine children, a testament to their deep love and commitment to each other. Harvey joined the Army in 1951 and served 27 years. Dorothy, Harvey, and their family
traveled the world, but their love and devotion to each other and to their children remained unwavering. They were married for 57 years.
Dorothy and her family lived in every place, from Philadelphia to Texas, from Washington state to Monterey, California, from the Panama Canal Zone to Germany, Europe, England, and even Russia. Yet, she embraced each new adventure with resilience and a sense of wonder, inspiring those around her. The family eventually settled back in Washington State when her husband
retired.
Upon returning to Washington State, Dorothy joined the Tacoma Public School. She began as a Para Educator, but her thirst for knowledge and dedication to education led her to complete her GED, earn a bachelor’s degree in education,
and start her master’s degree at UPS College in Tacoma. Her passion for learning and dedication to education were truly inspiring.
Dorothy was a long-time member of the Shiloh Baptist Missionary Church. Dr. Earnest Stonewall Brazill and Dr. Gregory Christopher. Dorothy was an active and deeply loved member of the church. Since it pleased our Heavenly Father to bring into this world on February 17, 1934, it pleased him equally to call her home from labor to reward on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
