Donovan “Daddy Don” Browne Frantz entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the age of 85. He was a native of New Orleans, graduated from De La Salle High School, and attended classes at Loyola University. After 2 tours of duty, the Armed Forces of the United States of America gave him an Honorable Discharge from the National Guard of Louisiana. While in the National Guard, he was part of the 39th Infantry Division Band. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Cabrini “Rini” S. Frantz, his parents, Roy and Lucille Frantz, and his brothers, Roy Frantz and Pharus Frantz. He is survived by his brother, Howard Frantz. He was the beloved father of Elaine Frantz (Larry Clement), Donovan Frantz, Jr. (Linda Frantz), and Kenneth “Kenny” Frantz (Maria Frantz). Lovingly known as “Daddy Don” to his 7 grandchildren Jennifer Russo (Jordan Delgado), Jamie Smith (Shawn), Devin Frantz (Brittany), Johnny Russo, Brandon Frantz, Hunter Frantz, Seth Frantz, and 2 great-grandchildren Casey Frantz and Avery Smith. He is also fondly remembered by Ashley Glenn and her daughter, Olivia Glenn. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Donovan started playing the drums at a very young age. He went on to play for the De La Salle High School band and the Loyola University stage band. He participated in a talent show at the university, where he won 1st place. He was an avid musician who played with numerous bands and on several continents. His world-renowned talent was featured on many albums. He also retired from the Jefferson Parish Engineering Department after working for over 20 years.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Boulevard, New Orleans, on Saturday, August 31, 2024. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a funeral mass to immediately follow in the Greenwood Chapel.
