Glenn Zack Clancy, beloved son, brother, and uncle, died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, Aug. 17, near Eagle Mountain Lake in Azle, Texas. He was 41. He is survived by his mother, Julia Dunaway, and stepfather, Steve; his father, Vincent Clancy Jr., and stepmother, Susan; and siblings Helen Clancy, John David (Lauren) Stokes, Alexandra (Jake) Laney, Misty (Tony) Mecham, Melody (Dave) Bergman, and Kevin (Lindsay) Soderlund.
Glenn also leaves behind the light of his life, Angela Williams, and her two children whom he loved as his own, Skyla and Jaxon; beloved nieces Taylor, Grace, Kyndal, and Meggan; and cherished nephews Garrett, Kadin, Austin, Carson, James, and Cage. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Vincent and Helen Clancy, and maternal grandparents Zack and Tommie Steele.
Although Glenn traveled many miles as a successful delivery driver, he knew life’s journey was measured in moments: tinkering on his finicky 2002 Celica GT in John David’s driveway into the wee hours of the night; taking out to the lake on a clear night to fish; texting (oh so patiently) with family members and friends about the intricacies of their vehicles and what that rattle or warning light might be; and meandering through yard sales and flea markets to find the best deals on tools, gadgets, and assorted treasures.
He loved others as if the clock might run out at any minute, pouring himself into relationships and leaving absolutely nothing on the field. Children were drawn to Glenn, seeing in him proof that a person can become an adult and still seek adventure. Older adults gravitated toward him, too, seeing the promise of happiness when you pursue what you love in people, places, and pets. He didn’t judge a person by their circumstances, and gave whatever he could to help a person in need.
He was born in Ogden, Utah, on July 26, 1983, and lived in California and Texas, graduating from Rim of the World High School in Lake Arrowhead, Calif., in 2002. Glenn was an Explorer Scout with the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department Twin Peaks Station from 1998 until 2001, completing numerous ride-alongs with patrol deputies who taught him the nuances of the law enforcement profession. From 2001 until 2003, Glenn worked part-time at Stater Bros. grocery store in Lake Arrowhead to help fund his many interests and hobbies.
He was a skilled handyman who enjoyed working on cars and solving mechanical problems across an array of projects. He also enjoyed walking with people through various challenges, including his grandmother, Tommie, as she required medical and transportation assistance in the final years of her life. His desire to serve others and his ability to connect with people, whether he knew them or not, made him a popular caregiver at Lake Worth Nursing Home, where he worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) from 2011 to 2014.
In 2014, Glenn shifted gears and obtained his Commercial Driver License (CDL) to become a truck driver. He traveled the country before deciding to stay closer to his Texas family with local delivery jobs, including the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Uber Eats, and Squeezed, before joining a Fort Worth culinary services company, Savor, in 2022. At the time of his death, Glenn was kitchen assistant and lead driver for Savor.
He found joy in the service aspects of culinary arts because it brought him into communion with people from all walks of life, who shared their personal stories and came to know Glenn while enjoying a cup of his signature pour-over coffee. From 2015 to present, he worked alongside his mother, Julia, at numerous chef events.
Understanding from his childhood years that distance doesn’t separate the hearts of family, Glenn traveled to Oklahoma frequently to spend time with Angela and her children.
He was generous with his time, his resources, and his love, and will be missed by all the people whose lives are richer because they knew him.
