At the age of 97, following a lengthy illness, former police chief in Castle Shannon, James L. Campbell, passed away at his home on Saturday, August 17, 2024.

He leaves behind his devoted wife of 63 years Barbara A. (McHugh) Campbell and his children Dr. Robert J. Campbell (Ed.D) of North Carolina, Jennifer (Christopher) Woodin of South Hamilton, Massachusetts and his amazing grandsons Douglas and Ryan. He is also survived by his brother-in-law David E. (Barbara) McHugh and his nephews Sean, Brian, David, Michael and Brad McHugh and nephews, Ronald, Thomas and Daniel Campbell, sister-in-law Carol Bowen and cousin Scott Potter. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Sheldon and Ruth I. Campbell and his brother Charles P. Campbell.

Following his graduation from Mt. Lebanon High School, he enlisted in the United States Army in June of 1944 until discharged in March 1947 serving in the Pacific Air Service Command. Following his discharge, he enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1947 to 1950.

Jim attended Duquesne University, leaving to join the Castle Shannon Police Force, where he had an industrious career for 42 years. From 1973 to 1992 he served as Police Chief until his retirement.

Winter, Summer, Spring and Fall, Jim’s passion was golfing. He loved reading especially about World War II facts and the action in the Pacific. Sitting in his favorite reading chair, his constant companion, Finn, was always by his side.

As per Jim’s wishes, there will be no formal viewing and the interment will be private.
