Deborah (Debbie) Anne Kirkman, 68, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024. She was a loving mother of two daughters, Serena Josephine Navarro (Christopher Neil) and Katie Ann Navarro (Jon Coleman); cherished grandmother of Isabella Navarro-Jones and Halla Navarro-Neil; loving sister of Pat Kelsey (Pete Kelsey) and brother, Chris Kirkman (Lisa Kirkman) and stepsiblings, Randy (Suzanne) and Melodie-Anne. Loving aunt to nephews, Keith (Jill, Danika, Easton), Murray (Travis, Royce) and Mark (Amanda, Aiden, Emma-Lee, and Josephine) and Jen and Ivy. Debbie was predeceased by her mother, Josephine Catherine Kirkman; her father, Charles Neville Kirkman; stepmother, Jackie Kirkman; and stepbrother, Christopher MacDonald.
Debbie was born in Toronto and grew up in Pointe Claire in Montreal, Quebec. A passionate and joyous spirit who loved music, dancing and playing sports.
Debbie graduated from Lindsay Place High School in 1974/1975 and proudly played for the school volleyball team with accolades. Debbie spoke fondly of her childhood memories and specifically of her time in Mexico for the ‘68 Olympics.
Debbie had an enriched career caring for and providing comfort in the Health Care field. This led her to be the President of the Medical Assistant Association. Debbie was also very passionate about the children in her community. She strived to make it better by pioneering the initiative to build the Windsor Park School playground for a community that did not have one.
Debbie loved trees and spending time by the ocean and discovered a passion for making driftwood art later in life. Her connection to nature was always present and in her time of her passing, she is surely present in the ocean breeze, the contours of the trees and becoming part of the renewal processes present in nature.
She was especially fond of spending time with her grandchildren and cherished every moment with her family.
Her daughters would like to plant a tree in her honour with the City’s Symbolic Tree Program. If her loved ones would like to donate to the cost, details will be announced in the coming months. Tree to be planted next Spring.
