It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Patrick Nichols.
He is survived by his wife, Doreen; son, Jason (Melissa); daughter, Kim (Alistair); and 4 grandsons, three sisters and two brothers. He was predeceased by his parents and his father and mother-in-law.
Pat was born in Castor, Alberta, the fifth of six children. He lived on a farm growing up and went to school there. He attended the University of Alberta and lived in St Joseph’s College, where he developed several life-long friendships. He lived the rest of his life in St Albert.
Pat had a long and dedicated career of service in the airline industry. He witnessed the metamorphosis of Pacific Western Airlines to Canadian to Air Canada, working for all three at the Municipal Airport and Edmonton International Airport.
Pat loved to travel provincially, nationally, and internationally. He did so for pleasure with his family as well as with his friends for golfing and sporting events.
Pat enjoyed being outdoors in all seasons, being an avid yard worker, cutting lawns, and clearing sidewalks of snow. Pat greatly enjoyed harvesting at his sister’s and brother-in-law’s farm every chance he got.
Pat’s pride and joy was his original blue ‘73 Challenger, which he restored and maintained it to classic status. The Challenger frequently participated in St. Albert’s Rock n’ August event that showcases classic cars.
Pat was a passionate and fabulous crokinole player. He loved challenging others to games and always maintained his cheeriness as he invariably defeated opponents. He enjoyed playing golf and billiards. He loved reading and watching all sports, especially curling. He loved playing with his grandsons in his back yard and barbequing for his guests. Pat loved cooking and baking, being very comfortable in the kitchen with Doreen. His walnut banana loaves will be greatly missed.
Pat was a quiet individual with a great sense of humor, sharp wit, and few words. He was strongly committed and protective of those important in his life. The education and careers of his children were of utmost importance to him.
A private funeral will be held for Pat.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Arrangements entrusted to Connelly-McKinley St. Albert Funeral Home.
