Mary Virginia Thomas Coon passed from this life on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Lasalle nursing home in Jena, La. She was 93 years old. Mary Virginia was born on May 12, 1931, to Willie Poole (Vernon) and was raised by her grandmother, Alma Lee Thomas. Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Adored by all who knew her, she brought so much joy into the lives of others, especially her grandchildren
Mary Virginia enjoyed collecting what-nots, especially Angels being one of her favorites. They were often displayed throughout her home and yard. She was a wonderful cook and friend to many. Mary Coon was one of the original attendants of the Country Strand Theater in its early years. She also served as a teacher's assistant for the LaSalle Parish HeadStart for about 35 years. Mary Virginia was also a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church.
Mary Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 50 years, Aaron Lester (Ted) Coon and a brother, Rinard Poole. Those left to cherish her memory is her son: Tommy Lynn Coon, of Jena, La brother: Wilbur Roy Poole, of Jena, La, granddaughters: Jenny Lynn Coon Paul (Cullen) of trout, Torey Coon of Jena, La and Chandler Coon of Del Rio, Tx. Also left to cherish her memory are her great granddaughters: Audrey Paul, Cailey Paul, grandsons: Bradley Paul, Dalton Paul and Eli Paul, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
