Cynthia Q. Meekins, born to Jeremiah (Jerry) Meekins and Viola Daniels Stanley on April 14, 1936, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the Sterling Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Media, PA.
She attended the Chester Schools and graduated from Chester High School in 1954. In the 1960s, Cynthia began her career with the Chester Schools, later becoming the Chester- Upland School District. She was a meticulous secretary who worked in various schools and later in the district offices until her retirement.
Cynthia was an active member of the St. Daniels United Methodist Church in Chester, PA. She served on many committees including the Church Anniversary Leadership and the United Methodist Women. She loved being on the Usher Board and was a founding member. She particularly loved feeding the community on Tuesdays, as an active member on the Kitchen Committee. She was an active member of Church Class #6 and Aid Guild. She was often sought out to help coordinate church events and gather program ads and desserts at a moment’s notice. She was cherished by many members of her church who would frequently visit her during her time at the hospital and at Sterling.
Pink and white carnations were her favorite flowers, as pink was her favorite color. She enjoyed life’s ‘finer things,’ and wanted everything right. This was evident in her work as a wedding consultant and maker of flower arrangements. She knew what she wanted, but wasn’t pretentious. Her retirement party, held at the DuPont Country Club, was a grand gala, planned and executed with perfection.
Cynthia was blessed with several great friends including Mabell Dandy, Mary Staples, Georgina Warren, Suzanne Gibbs, Barbara Smith, Lisa Smith Strothers, Ms. V (her neighbor), Ms. Anita (another neighbor), Juanita Rice (her road crony), her late cousin and friend Jerrisha Jordan Wilson, and one of her very best friends from St. Daniels, Gene Thomas.
She was also a devoted and beloved employee of the Hunt Irving Funeral Home where she worked on staff after her retirement, serving over 20 years. Cynthia was blessed with a gift for writing. She would write the tributes for the members of Hunt Irving Funeral Home that had passed. Her last tribute was written so well that when she finished, she received a thunderous applause from the staff and those attending the service.
No matter where she went or where she was, if she was asked, “Can I get you anything?”, she would respond, “I would like to have a root beer.” Even the staff at State Farm knew of her love for root beer, and would have it available for her when she came to pay her bill.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Martha Quintero. She is survived by her nephews, Eric Daniels (Fiancé Jennine), who was more like a son, Javier Quintero (Fiancé Gina), great nephew Maurice Daniels, great niece Tatyanah Quintero, her Godchild Dr. LaWanda Swan (Husband Pastor Darryl), and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cynthia will be dearly missed by her coworkers, neighbors, friends, and family.
