Gloria Sue Sheppard (Sue), 83, entered eternal rest on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 5:16pm, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was born December 11, 1940, to the late Thomas Kelly and Estell West (Johnson). Gloria Sue gave her life to Christ at an early age and united with Mount Zion C.M.E Church where she remained a member and served on various boards until her decline in health. Sue was a proud graduate of Lincoln High School Class of 1959 . She worked as a cafeteria worker in the Fort Smith Public School system where she retired after a long career. Gloria Sue joined in union with Carl Sheppard, Sr. in 1958 and to that union they had three children, Carl Jr., William and Anthony.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Kelly and Estelle West; her husband, Carl Sheppard Sr.; Sons, Carl and Anthony Sheppard; Brothers, William West, Sr. and Danny Ray West; Sisters: Robbie Geneva West-Posey, Rosie Marie West and Erma Faye Hamiliton. She leaves to celebrate her legacy, one son: William Earl Sheppard, (Angela), grandsons: Anthony Sheppard Jr., Dewayne Sheppard, Cameo Sheppard, Kevin Sheppard (Christina), Cameron Sheppard, Jamal Sheppard, and Jeremy Sheppard; granddaughter, LaShawna Sheppard; brothers, James Earl West of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; Thomas Kelly West (Barbara) and Clarence Monroe West both of Fort Smith, Arkansas; sisters, Mary Jean Willliams of Thibodaux, Louisiana and Diane West of Fort Smith, Arkansas and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will cherish her memory and celebrate her legacy.

Gloria Sue faithfully served as a member of the Mount Zion C.M.E. Church where she worked tirelessly as a sponsor for the youth department and cooking sweets and pastries for various events. She had a passion for her family and spending time with her grandchildren and giving back to others through acts of service. She had a genuine heart that will surely be missed and leave a void.

There will be a Visitation for friends and family on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Lewis Funeral Chapel, located at 4817 Kelley Hwy in Fort Smith, Arkansas 72904. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church, located at 910 N 7th St in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Interment will take place at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 26, 2024 at the Fort Smith National Cemetery, located at 522 Garland Ave, Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901.
