Steven Perez Obituary

Steven Perez, 63, of Highland, died Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Westchester Medical Center.

Born in New York, NY, he was a son of the late Francisco Perez and Esther Nazario.

Steven, known to his loved ones as Stevie, was a man who often hid behind his armor. His love for his sister and brother was unmatched. A true New Yorker at heart, he cherished his time on staff at The Paradise Garage, where his life-long love affair with music flourished and fueled his passion. Frequent visits to his sister in the Hudson Valley eventually led him to make it his own home. Stevie had a unique sense of humor and was a masterful storyteller, particularly when recounting tales from his childhood with his siblings. He was always ready with a joke or a funny story, and he never turned down the chance to partner up and dance the hustle.

Steven is survived by his daughter, Amy Perez Garcia and her husband Frank of St. Cloud, FL, his sister, Jeanette Lopez and her husband, Daniel Bumbaco of New Paltz, his brother, Frank Perez of New York, NY, four grandchildren, Charlie, Frank, Jr, Katelyn, Jaelyn, two nieces, Jessica Lopez Schamberg and her husband, Søren of New Paltz, Danielle Lopez-Agor and her husband, Matthew Agor of Gardiner, five great nieces and nephews, Haylie, Leah, Daniel, Mateo and Liam. Steve was also survived by his beloved cat, Skyla.

In addition to his father, Steven was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Daniel Lopez.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Church, New Paltz.

In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the ASPCA.

Interment will be privately held.

Aside from God, Music is the Answer, Love is the Message.

Copeland-Hammerl Funeral Home is honored to assist the family of Steven with the arrangements.
