Roger Alan Michael Obituary

Roger Alan Michael, widower of Marnie Schlansky Michael, passed away in his home on Saturday, August 17th due to heart complications at the age of 69. Born in Lexington, Kentucky as the third son of the late William and Jo Ann Michael on December 4, 1954, he developed a love for sports and not taking life too seriously. He attended Lafayette High School where he played baseball and basketball, and decades later would laugh as he recalled he and his buddies planting a commode in cement outside of Tates Creek high school before a rivalry football game. He truly did love to laugh. He attended Transylvania University where he joined the Kappa Alpha Order and proudly served as statistician to legendary basketball coach Don Lane. He graduated with high marks and went on to receive a Law degree from Chase College in Northern Kentucky. He met his first wife, Susan Battaglia, and they would move back to his farm in Bourbon County and have two children, Brittany and Jordan. Both were extremely honored to call him their dad. He practiced law until the day he died, serving as County Attorney in Bourbon County from 1990-1994 and owning a practice in Paris and Georgetown, but his true passions fell outside of work. Roger had a curious mind and enthusiasm for learning new things, leading him to own an antique shop, a woodworking shop, and a restaurant called-Mulberry Corner. He loved animals and Kentucky Basketball, so much so that it was a miracle his heart didn't stop working back in March. Most importantly, he loved his four grandchildren, and they loved him dearly.

Surviving are his two children, daughter, Brittany (Scott) Jacobs; son, Jordan (Ellie) Michael; grandchildren,

Addie Jacobs, Griggs Michael, John Roger Michael, and Bates Michael. Also surviving are his two brothers, Bill Michael and David (Judy) Michael, his beloved dog Lucy, and numerous cats including but not limited to Maggie, Boogie, Chili, Ghost, and Ebony.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at The Lexington Cemetery with a celebration of life ceremony to follow at The Annex by Mirror Twin Brewery from 1:30-3:30. 730 National Avenue Lexington, Kentucky 40502.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial donations to Club Blue NIL for UK Men’s Basketball or the American Heart Association.
