CHERYL LYNN (NIXON) SHARP

12/07/1960 - 08/17/2024

Cheryl began her life’s journey on December 7, 1960, at 11:34 a.m. in the morning – weighing in at 7 pounds and 9 ounces. Born to an Army family at Fort Campbell, Kentucky (near Clarksville, TN) she entered the world of “Army Brats”. 

Spent her young years moving around the world. Elementary school completed while in Tampa; Clarksville, TN; Fayeville, NC; and back in Tampa. Middle school in Indianapolis, IN. High school in Oslo, Norway; Great Britain and Hinesville, Georgia. She broke away from the bondage of being an “Army Brat” by getting married in July of 1979. She moved to Gretna, Louisiana (a suburb of New Orleans). In Gretna, her only child was born in 1980. Her first marriage lasted 12 years before ending in a divorce. 

I met Cheryl when I was 21 years old, and she warmed my heart with love she showed to other people. We got married on October 31, 2000 – yes, Halloween – our favorite holiday. We did everything together – fishing, camping, and concerts. For holidays if you said no presents, she would buy you one anyway. She just wanted you to smile. A little time later we moved to Zephyrhills, Florida, where we lived for 17 years until she went to heaven. Love you so much Cheryl. See you again some day. 

Cheryl had a 30-year career with the Hillsborough County School system. Most of her time was spent in the department responsible for school air conditioning systems. After retirement, she was employed with the State of Florida until the present time. 

Cheryl leaves behind a vast support group of family and friends that includes her husband, Thomas Sharp; her parents, Woodard and Patricia Nixon; a brother, Woodard Nixon Jr; a daughter, Patricia (PJ); three grandchildren, Dylan, Alysa, and Ashton; and a lot of cousins. 

Cheryl will be greatly missed. 

No services are planned at this time. A celebration of life will be held in October for family and friends. Additional information will be sent out before then.
