Isabel Grace Laub, affectionately known as Liz, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2024, in Orange, California. Born on December 18, 1931, in Delagua, Colorado, Liz's life was a testament to the power of faith, love, and the strength of family bonds.
Liz grew up in the close-knit mining communities of Delagua and Morely, Colorado, where she attended local schools and met the love of her life, Vern Laub. Both hailing from families connected by the mining camps, their love story was one for the ages. Liz and Vern started out as neighbors, dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage in 1953, embarking on a journey that would span nearly seven decades. Together, they built a life filled with joy, challenges, and unwavering commitment until Vern's passing in 2023.
A dedicated homemaker, Liz poured her heart into caring for her home and family. She is survived by her loving children, James Laub (Anna), Mark Laub, and Catherine Bell; her cherished grandchildren, Jarod (Elizabeth), Rebeca (Nathan), Steven (Yuka), Caitlin (Gabriel), Jessica (Juan), and Samuel (Angelina); her adored great-grandchildren, Wayne (Alicia), Victoria, Edward, Jonathan, Penelope, Adelynn, Charlotte, Carter, Gregory, Emily, and Harper; and her precious great-great grandchild, Arthur Wayne Jr. Each of them carries a piece of Liz's spirit, her teachings, and her love.
Liz’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. With a servant’s heart, she dedicated time to volunteering, spreading kindness and compassion wherever she went. A lifelong reader, she volunteered at the local library, sharing her love for books with others. Later in life, Liz and Vern, on behalf of the Kiwanis Club, spent decades calling bingo at an assisted living facility, a pastime that brought joy to many.
Liz's interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. She found solace in the tranquility of the garden alongside Vern, and her hands were rarely still, always busy with crocheting or embroidery work. Over time, she honed her culinary skills and perfected her recipes, much to the delight of her family who enjoyed the spice and warmth of her cooking. In her later years, Liz found joy in taking walks and watching television, with "Scooby Doo" being a particular favorite.
Liz's life can be encapsulated by the words faith-filled, loving, and kind. Her occasional ornery streak only added to the charm and wit that endeared her to all who knew her. She embodied the words of Mother Teresa, "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love." Indeed, Liz's life was a series of small, loving acts that together created an extraordinary legacy.
As we bid farewell to Isabel Laub, we remember a woman whose life was a tapestry of love, service, and unwavering faith. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide those she has left behind as she finds her eternal rest in the embrace of the Lord she so dearly loved. Liz's legacy is a reminder that the richest lives are those lived with an open heart, ready to love, serve, and cherish every moment. May she rest in peace, having lived a life of grace, knowing she has left the world far richer than she found it.
