James Leon Wilson, III, age 47, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at his home in Harrisburg, PA. Born on Wednesday, February 23, 1977, in Carlisle, PA, James was the son of Sue (Clark) Hassinger and stepson of Kirk R. Hassinger of Mechanicsburg. His life was characterized by a spirited and adventurous nature, a friendly demeanor, and a deep love for his family, friends, and animal companions.
James proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1995 to 1999, during which time he earned several commendations for his service, including the National Defense Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy Arctic Service Ribbon, and the Rifle Expert Badge. His dedication to his duties and his country was a testament to his strong character and sense of responsibility.
After his honorable discharge from the USMC, James continued his service at the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry in the Unemployment Claims Department. His work there was marked by the same commitment and diligence he showed in every aspect of his life.
James was a man of many interests, with a particular passion for sports and the outdoors. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow golfers. A New Yorker at heart, James never missed a chance to cheer on his favorite New York teams—the Mets, Giants, Rangers—and held a special place in his heart for Notre Dame Football.
Beyond the thrill of sports, James held a great love for animals, a trait that shone brightly through his cherished companionship with his adopted rescue Maltese, Marty.
James's life was enriched by the love and support of his beloved family. In addition to his mother and stepfather, Sue and Kirk, James is survived by his fiancée Erin Daughenbaugh of Harrisburg, his grandmother Helen Clark of Hilton Head, SC, his siblings Ben Hassinger of Camp Hill, Katherine Hassinger (Matt Richmond) of Lemoyne, Miles Hassinger of Seattle, WA, and Margo Hassinger Albright (Andrew Muza) of Mechanicsburg, Uncles Brian Clark and wife Jeanne of Hilton Head, SC, and John Clark and wife Melissa of Aspers, PA; his niece Cleo Richmond, along with several step-nieces and nephews.
James family takes comfort in knowing that he now joins his late grandfather John Clark and Aunt Sharon Clark in eternal peace. James's departure from this world leaves an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. He will always be remembered in the stories we share and the special moments that bind us together.
