In addition to his work with HUD, Alan became an advocate for trauma victim’s rights, founding the Trauma Victims Support Group of Connecticut; work for which he received a Connecticut State Senate Proclamation. Alan also served as a volunteer firefighter with the Wilson Volunteer Fire Department for several years.
Alan’s hobbies and interests included water skiing, archery, racing cars at Lyme Rock and Stafford Speedway with his beloved Sunbeam Alpine, target shooting, and boating on the Idle Hours with his family and friends.
In additional to his wife, Virginia, Alan leaves behind his daughter, Deborah Castonguay; and grandchildren, Mary and Valen; his brother, David Goodwin Hayes; and nephews, Jeffrey (Tammy) and Mark; his niece, Susan (Peter); and a host of cousins, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
