Mrs. Francheska Denise Hollis-Reiss, affectionately known as Fran, was born on November 12, 1970, and transitioned to eternal rest on August 17, 2024.
She was preceded in death by her father, Garfield Hollis; grandfather, Semore Richardson; grandmother, Mary Richardson; grandmother, Mary Hollis Jackson; brother, Garfield Hollis, Jr.; and mother-in-law, Margaret Reiss.
Fran was born to the union of the late Garfield Hollis and Inez R. Tucker. At an early age, Fran professed her faith in Christ as her Lord and Savior at El Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama. Later, she became an active member of New Bayside Baptist Church under the servant leadership of Dr. Ledell Cleveland.
Fran was a proud John L. Leflore High School Class of 1990 graduate. She participated in various extracurricular activities at Leflore High School and took great pride in being a Rattler for Life. She pursued her higher education at Alabama State University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She continued her post-graduate studies, earning a Master’s in School Counseling.
She embarked on her 25-year career as an educator with the Mobile County Public School System, positively impacting the lives of countless students, faculty, and staff members. Fran’s passion for teaching and learning transcended the boundaries of the classroom as she deeply cared for her students and maintained enduring connections with many of them over the years. As a counselor, she took great pride in guiding her students and ensuring they could navigate every facet of their formative years. It was not unusual for former students to express their appreciation for her compassionate gestures, as she left an unforgettable mark on their lives.
Fran was blessed to marry the love of her life, George Xavier Reiss on June 10, 2001. Together, they raised their four children: Timothy Hollis, Jabori Reiss Sr., Summer Reiss, and Nyla Reiss.
Fran found great joy in the simple things in life, such as shopping, spending quality time with family and friends, and loving on her adorable first grandchild, Jabori Malik Reiss, Jr. She had a passion for baking, watching movies, photography, and was a devoted fan of Alabama State Football and the Mighty Marching Hornets. Above all, her most cherished roles were as a loving wife and a supportive mother, always encouraging and standing by her family through their endeavors.
Fran, also known as Diligent Diva #65 of the Predestined 70, was a highly esteemed active member of the Mobile Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She joined the chapter in the spring of 2021 and wholeheartedly embraced the values of sisterhood and service, embodying them in all aspects of her involvement.
Fran leaves to cherish her precious memories: her loving and devoted husband, George Reiss; her loving mother, Inez R. Tucker; her children, Timothy Hollis, Jabori (Sha’Rone) Reiss, Sr., Summer Reiss, and Nyla Reiss; siblings, Ledell Cleveland, Anthony (Ozella) Clevland, Willie C. (Renee) Cleveland, Andreana Hollis, Nikita Fralin, Jerimiah Glasper, Terrell Glasper, Jessica Glasper, Marcus (Tyra) Glasper, Brittany Glasper, Kayla Hollis, and Eric Hollis; grandson, Jabori Malik Reiss, Jr.; a devoted aunt, Karen Richardson and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws, other extended family members and friends.
