Jean B. Corkhill

Jean B. Corkhill, 97, a long-time resident of Santa Maria Passed away Saturday, August 17, 2024. She was born in Garfield Australia. Her parents were Dorothy and Donald Perman who emigrated to Australia from England shortly after their marriage. They returned to England and lived near London during WWII. Her father served in the Home Guard. During the blitz she was evacuated to Wales for one year and then returned home for the remainder of the war.

At the completion of her schooling, she was employed by Barclay's Bank and then served for two and one-half years in the Women's Royal Naval Service (WRNS). Following her service in the WRNS she was employed by British European Airways. She emigrated to Canada in 1952 and worked for Canadian Aviation Electronics and Rolls Royce of Canada. Subsequently she lived in Turkey before returning to Canada and eventually resided in Santa Maria.

She had four children by her first husband Ken Burrill, twins Ann and Andrew, born in England, and David and Carolyn born in the United States. Later she was married in Santa Maria to John Corkhill.

She is survived by her brothers, Lawrence Perman in Australia, and Malcolm Perman in Canada, and her sister Jillian Perkins in England.

Her grandchildren are April, Audrey, Brittany, Mathew, Chelsea, Michelle, Steven, Michael, Daniel, Kristopher, Ashly, Samantha, Jesse, Lauren and Harrison. Her great­ grandchildren are Drew, Hailey, Lily, Gavin, Malachi, Nika, Oliver, Caleb, Ava, and Dillon.

Jean was a loving person and visited many of her friends in their final years. She also had a great love for her garden and flowers, and enjoyed oil painting, reading books, listening to classical music, and overseas travel.

She was a member of the Orcutt Presbyterian Church since 1975. Memorial contributions can be made to the Orcutt Presbyterian Church Mission Fund.

Memorial Services will be held at the Orcutt Presbyterian Church. Date and time are pending and will be updated on Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary’s website when set.
