Eugene “Butch” Cook died on August 17, 2024 at his home in DeSoto, IA.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 from 3-7 p.m. at the Cook home, 105 Guthrie, DeSoto, IA.
He was born January 13, 1948 to Eugene and Violet Kern Cook. He married his high school sweetheart Barbara Moser in August of 1966. They moved to DeSoto 47 years ago and built a life with love, laughter, and lots of projects.
There was nothing Butch could not build or fix. He was known for his quiet and kind manners and his deep love for his family and friends. He had a wild side in his 20’s, jumping cars with his motorcycle, wrestling a bear with his buddies at a local Grimes festival and then riding competition trials at motorcycle events into his 40’s. Everyone knew he was the go-to with broken cars, broken bones, and broken hearts.
Butch and Barbara were married for 57 years and they embraced adventure and traveled to nearly every state. He enjoyed the endless list of projects and he always had more than one iron in the fire. In addition to anything involving wood, metal, electricity, etc., he had a big garden, ponds, fruit trees and enjoyed working late into the night outside.
Butch is survived by his wife Barbara, two children, Katherine (Doug) Ollendieck of Dysart, IA and Mike (Patty) Cook of Grimes, IA, four grandchildren, Abigail Olson, Sam Ollendieck, Eric and Justin Wong and a sister Nancy Snyder and countless close friends.
