Virgil Matthew "Buzz" Meyers

July 5, 1933 ~ August 17, 2024

Virgil Matthew Meyers, 91, Gas City, passed away peacefully at 10:56 am on Saturday, August 17, 2024, in his home. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on Wednesday, July 5, 1933, to Clifford and Orpha (Hyatt) Meyers. On October 26, 1952, he married Dorothy Hoppel.

Virgil graduated from Mississinewa High School and worked at Owens-Illinois as electrician and retired as an electrician from Chrysler. He was a member of Lighthouse Assembly of God. Virgil loved fishing, camping, woodworking and working in the yard. He was a leader of a Bible study for over 14 years at Lighthouse. Virgil and Dorothy would have celebrated 72 years of marriage in October. They liked to travel and in fact, traveled to all 50 states. More than anything, God and his family were always first.

Survivors include his wife; his daughters, Cheryl (Harold) Mathias of Marion, Debbie (Jim) Fortman of Indianapolis; son, Greg (Susie Ruley) Meyers of Mier; granddaughters, Abby (Shawn) Donovan, Molly (Brendan Jones) Mathias, Allison Elkins; grandson, Michael (Meagan) Mathias; great grandchildren, Josh, Alex, Melanie, Jaxyn, Jack, Jordyn, and Alice; and great-great grandchildren, Evelyn and Harlow.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford E. and Orpha L. Meyers.

The family will receive visitors from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 as well as 1 hour prior to the service on Thursday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, at Lighthouse Assembly of God, 5909 S. Jay St., Marion, IN.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Virgil's life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at the Lighthouse Assembly of God. Rev. Jerry Gallaway will be officiating with burial following at Grant Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Lighthouse Assembly Church Youth Group.
