Robert J. Guchereau, Jr., affectionately known as Bob to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2024, in his hometown of Lafayette, La. Born on August 12, 1932, to the late Robert J. Guchereau, Sr. and Hazel Bibien Peret, Bob was a beacon of light and love to all who had the pleasure of crossing his path. He was the cornerstone of his family, a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Betty Ann Edwards Guchereau, and their loving children: Jeff Guchereau and wife Gina, Laurie Sztroin and husband David, and Beth Zehrer and husband Peter. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Jeremy Guchereau (Kasey), Kelley Guchereau, Michael Sztroin, Justin Sztroin, Savannah Guchereau, and Andrew Zehrer, as well as his adored great-granddaughters, Marin, Amelia, and Eleanor Guchereau. He was the heart of his family, and his memory will be treasured forever. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Henry Peret Guchereau, and sister, Mary Alice Guchereau Gregory, who welcomed him into eternal rest.

A proud 1949 graduate of Cathedral High School, Bob continued his education at SLI (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette), where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business in 1953. His thirst for knowledge led him to Louisiana State University, where he received his Master's Degree in 1955. Bob's professional life was marked by over 40 years of dedicated service as a Business Manager at South Central Bell, where he was respected by his colleagues and subordinates alike.

Bob's passion for life extended far beyond his professional achievements. He was a talented instructor at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio, where he shared the joy of dance with countless students. It was there he met the love of his life, his wife Betty, who was also an instructor. His commitment to his community was evident through his volunteer work at Hamilton Hospital in Lafayette, and his devout service as an active parishioner of the Cathedral of St John the Evangelist. There, he held roles as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, Homebound Minister, and altar server.

His involvement with the Rotary Club, where he served as president in the Crowley district, and his membership in the Telephone Pioneers of America, showcased his leadership and dedication to service. Bob's love for music was profound; he played the trombone in the Lafayette and New Iberia Concert Bands, and led the Bob Guchereau Combo. His voice graced the airwaves on the Music of Yesteryear radio show on KRVS radio station, bringing melodies of the past into the homes of many.

Bob's heart was indeed his greatest gift, as he lived a life marked by faith, generosity, and selflessness. These traits were the compass by which he navigated his journey, and they shone brightly in his hobbies, which included dancing, fishing, and travel. His adventures took him to many places, but it was the dance of life he shared with his family and community that was his most cherished voyage.

As we bid farewell to Robert J. Guchereau, Jr., we celebrate a life richly lived and a man deeply loved. His spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who were blessed to know him. Bob's story does not end with his passing, for his legacy is woven into the fabric of the many lives he touched. He has danced into the light of eternity, leaving us with memories that will forever waltz in our hearts.

The Guchereau family extends a heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Lafayette General ICU for their compassionate care and support.
