Rita Mary Anne Ferguson, 69, of Alpena passed away peacefully at her home in the early hours of August 17, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on April 7, 1955 in Port Huron to the late Kenneth and Gladys (Keeler) Erard, Rita was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Rita was a lifelong caregiver and a teacher of invaluable life lessons. Her legacy is found in the love, wisdom, and skills she passed on to countless people, extending far beyond her immediate family. Known for her generosity, she cared for the elderly and others' children, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she encountered. As the keeper of family secrets, history, and recipes, Rita was the go-to person for all matters of cooking, baking, quilting, sewing, crocheting, and more.
Her hobbies and interests reflected her love for life and community. Rita enjoyed giving back and paying it forward, nurturing her love for horses, dogs, cooking, baking, antiques, auctions, garage sales, gardening, and plants. She had a particular passion for decorating for all holidays, especially Halloween and Christmas, and loved taking scenic and peaceful drives with her family.
Rita shared 53 wonderful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Wayne Ferguson. Together, they raised six children, Kenneth Ferguson, Daniel (Amy) Ferguson, Mark (Kennellie) Ferguson, Heather (Jason) Golbeck, Charlene (Derek) Knapp, Scott (Jennifer) Ferguson, and cherished their twelve grandbabies and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Lis Erard. She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Rita's warmth, wisdom, and kindness touched the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her, especially her family.
