Luvenia Valerie Smith Obituary

Luvenia (Lu) Smith passed from this life to her heavenly reward on August 17th, 2024. She was born to John & Minnie Stewart Jordan in Arlington, TX on 17 Sept 1934.

The family moved from Iowa to Midway, Boone Co., MO in the spring of 1949. Lu graduated from Hickman High School in 1952. On June 13, 1953, she married Carroll Smith and together they raised four children, surviving her. Thomas Smith & Sandy and Clayton Daniel Smith & Roma, both of Columbia, MO, Lisa Clements of Olathe KS, and Kathy Plate & Mike of Oskaloosa, IA.

She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren: Michael Barry Smith of Columbia, Dustin Smith & Devin of Olathe, KS, Jordan Smith & Courtney of St. Louis, Rachel Clements & Sara Clements, Eldredge & Andrew of Colorado Springs, Megan Wallace of Oskaloosa and Jeremy Plate & Vanessa also of Oskaloosa, IA. Lu is survived by two sisters, Joan Poe and Martha Coleman, both of Columbia. Also surviving are 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her grandson Tommy Wayne, her son-in-law Tom Clements, and Shadow, her beloved Labrador.

Lu was an active leader with the Girl Scouts and 4-H clubs for several decades. She was an avid genealogist. Lu was a medical transcriptionist for the University of Missouri for many years. She was a painter, a lover of the Colorado Mountains and Rocky Mountain National Park, a frequent traveler, and never missed an opportunity for an adventure.

She wishes to be remembered for her love of God, country, and her family, in that order.

Her prayers have always been that her family will meet with her one day in her

Heavenly Palace for a reunion in the sky.

Services will be at Compass Evangelical Free Church where Lu and Carroll have been members for many decades. In place of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Compass Evangelical Free Church to support the Older Adult Tai Chi Classes which Lu and Carroll participated in for over many years and credit the class for keeping them young and active to this day or, to The Gideons for the distribution of Bibles.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker-Millard Funeral Service & Crematory, 12 East Ash Street, Columbia, MO 65203 (573) 449-4153. Condolences can be made to the family at www.parkermillard.com.
