William J. Donovan peacefully passed away on Saturday, August 17th 2024 at his home following a brief illness. He was 95.
Born and raised in Bayonne, New Jersey, William was the son of the late James J. and Catherine (nee-Trodden) Donovan. He also lived in Chatham Township for 33 years before moving to Morris Plains in July of 2016.
William attended the University of Notre Dame, graduating in 1950. He went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from January 1951 until January 1953, assigned to European Command Intelligence in Germany.
William then started a long career at the General Motors Corporation, first in Linden, New Jersey, moving on to additional assignments in Atlanta, Georgia and Detroit, Michigan, before finishing his career back in Linden, retiring in 1990.
He was pre-deceased by his wife, Marion J. (nee-Corriston) who passed away on May 29, 2018; his brother, James and his sister, Regina.
Survivors include his son, William J. Jr. and his wife, Karen; his daughter, Karen DeLade and her husband, Thomas; his son, Greg E.; his grandchildren: Kelsey, Elizabeth, Timothy, Genevieve, Shannon and her husband, Leo, Connor and his wife, Rachel and Collin; and his great-grandchildren: Brynleigh, Keegan and Leo.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Liturgy of Christian Burial to be offered at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, August 23rd 2024 at St. Christopher R.C. Church. 1050 Littleton Road, Parsippany. Interment: Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Visiting hours are on Thursday Evening from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Par-Troy Funeral Home. 95 Parsippany Road, Parsippany.
