Anastacia C. Ocanas Obituary

Anastacia C. "Tachi" Ocanas, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully due to natural causes on August 17, 2024, in Edinburg, Texas. She was born on December 29, 1933, in Agualeguas, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, to parents Benito Cervantes and Manuela Gomez Cervantes. Her presence brought warmth and light to the lives of all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.

Tachi's journey began in her native Mexico, but her story continued in Texas, where she became an integral part of her community. The family matriarch was known for her loving, generous, and selfless nature, often putting the needs of others before her own. She was very well self-educated, a testament to her determination and intelligence, which she applied in all aspects of her life.

Her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as the owner and operator of Morningside Grocery store in Edinburg, where she was affectionately known as "Grandma." For nearly three decades, she provided not only food and necessities but also a kind word and genuine care to all who walked through her doors. Her presence behind the counter was a reassuring staple in many lives.

Beyond her professional achievements, Tachi's interests were deeply rooted in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid thrifter and shopper, always on the hunt for hidden treasures. Her love for reading the Bible was a cornerstone of her faith, which guided her through life's highs and lows. Tachi delighted in the drama of novelas, enjoying the twists and turns of each story with the same enthusiasm she brought to her everyday life. However, nothing compared to the joy she found in family gatherings, where she was both the heart and historian, weaving stories and creating memories that will live on forever.

Tachi was preceded in death by her loving parents, Benito and Manuela Cervantes; brothers, Jose Vidal and Guadalupe Cervantes; and her dearly missed daughter, San Juanita Ocanas. Her legacy continues through her beloved husband, Fidel Ocanas; sons, Fidel Ocanas Jr. (Diana Delgado), Victor (Sara) Ocanas, Robert (Lisa) Ocanas, and CSM Daniel (USA, Ret.) (Clara) Ocanas; and her siblings, Benito Cervantes Jr., and Manuela Cervantes Gomez.

Her spirit lives on in the hearts of her grandchildren: Maria Isabel Torres, Roberto Rodriguez Jr., Jessica Y Luikens, Eric M. Rodriguez, Crystal M. Starr, Sonya Y. Ocanas, Monica Ocanas, Jacklyn Ocanas, Frances Jimenez, Brianna Lynn, Ray Ocanas, Victor G. Ocanas Jr., Alex Ocanas, Savina Ocanas, Nicholas Ocanas, Carolina Ocanas, Carlos O. Ocanas, Valerie Ocanas-Hubac, Daniel Ocanas Jr., and Denise Peacock. Her legacy blossoms through her 31 great-grandchildren, each a reflection of her kindness and strength.

Through her life, Tachi taught those around her the power of unconditional love and the importance of family. Her guidance was gentle, her wisdom profound, and her ability to uplift others was unparalleled. A beacon of resilience and grace, she has left an indelible mark on the world.

As we say farewell to Anastacia C. "Tachi" Ocanas, we remember a woman whose life was a tapestry of devotion, hard work, and endless affection. Her story does not end here, for it is carried forward in the lives of those she loved. Tachi's memory will be honored not just in words, but in the acts of kindness and community spirit she fostered in all of us. We celebrate her remarkable journey and are grateful for the time we were blessed to share with her. Rest in peace, dear Tachi, until we meet again.
