He was a 1990 graduate of Tioga High School where he excelled in band, baseball, and track & field. Ty was named after the famous 1920’s baseball player, Ty Cobb. In the early 90s, Ty became a member of the Pentecostals of Alexandria, where he was baptized in the name of Jesus and had all of his sins washed away and received the gift of the Holy Ghost. He took his love for music and used it for the Lord by singing in the choir and playing trombone in the orchestra. One of his highlights from playing in the orchestra was meeting President Bill Clinton during his term at one of the church’s productions of Messiah.

For the past several years, he was a member of Church of Pentecost in Ball, La and served in the sound booth. Ty joined the Louisiana National Guard in 1990 at the age of 17. He proudly served in two tours, one in the Bravo Company, 1-244th Assault Helicopter Battalion executing over 4300 flight hours transporting over 13,500 personnel and over 160,000 lbs. of cargo while stationed at Joint Base Balad, Iraq as senior crew chief and one in Ft. Benning, GA. During other deployments, he assisted the Red Cross during hurricanes and went on drug missions.

Ty retired from the Louisiana National Guard after 21 years of service. He also had a career in the United States Postal Service for 20+ years. He followed in his father’s footsteps in both his military and postal service careers. He was a very hardworking man, working long hours and weekends for many years. Ty loved music, being outdoors, animals, gardening, fishing, hunting, Boy Scouts, Star Wars, and most recently, geocaching. He loved his family and had three wonderful children, Cheyenne Brooke, Corbin Zayne, and Cory Ty Cobb.

Ty is preceded in death by his grandparents, Leonard and Thelma Byrd; grandfather, W.C. Cobb, great grandparents, Rev. Grover Cleveland and Vicie Willis; great grandmother, Lenora Byrd, aunt, Jo Lynne Sutherland, and uncles, Russell Byrd and Brent Willis.
