June Mary Ann DeBaise, 100, passed away peacefully, August 17, 2024, at Cheshire House in Waterbury.
June was born June 13, 1924, daughter of the late Frank DeBaise and Josephine (Polchepek) DeBaise and was a lifelong resident of Wallingford and parishioner of Holy Trinity Church.
She retired from Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation in 1986 after more than 30 years of service.
June received her private pilot’s license in 1942 and became a member of the Civil Air Patrol, Connecticut Wing, stationed at South Meriden Field. She also trained other aviators at Bader Field in New Jersey. The Civil Air Patrol, flying U-BOAT search missions off the coast of the United States was made up entirely of civilians. These aviators played a vital role defending American merchant shipping during the war providing both American servicemen and women and allies in Europe and Pacific Theatre, needed supplies and equipment.
Junes’ unwavering faith in God provided her a simple life where her family, friends and dog ‘Ricky’ were her greatest treasures. She loved spending time with her family, especially the children. She would sit for hours, teaching them to draw and color, play music and games. To those in Wallingford that didn’t know her, she was known as the ‘nice lady’ that drove the old green VW Beatle (a stick shift).
She dedicated her life to helping others. A Eucharistic Minister, she administered the sacrament to others, was involved with the Holy Trinity children’s choir, Franciscan Center and many other organizations. June visited nursing homes in the area on a regular basis spending time with residents, providing friendship, caring and spreading her joy.
She is predeceased by her brothers Roger M DeBaise (Mary ‘Dolores’ DeBaise) and Richard L DeBaise (Kathie Meyers).
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Kathie (Meyers) DeBaise of Shelton; cousins, Robert A. DeBaise of Meriden, Judy Inguagiato of Wallingford, and Barbara Marut of Meriden; a niece, Ruth Howard of Wallingford; nephews, Roger DeBaise (Louise Duwell), Steven DeBaise (Susan Shaw) and David DeBaise, all of Wallingford; grandnieces, Jacqueline DeBaise, Sara Howard, Emily Howard and Sandra Hoffman (James Hoffman) all of Wallingford; grandnephews, Biran Howard (Stephanie Lopez-Boy), of Georgia, Stephen DeBaise and Matthew DeBaise of Wallingford; great-nieces Riley Howard, Penelope Howard, Amelia Rodriguez and Analicia Rodriguez; and great-nephews, Aiden Rodriguez, Gavin Hoffman, Logan Cardona and Samuel Howard.
