Joseph P. Farrell Obituary

Joseph P. Farrell, age 78, of Lynn, died at his home on Saturday, August 17, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He as the devoted husband of Donna M. (Langlais) Farrell with whom he shared almost 54 years of marriage with. Born in Lynn, in 1946, he was the son of the late Walter M. and Eleanor (McDonough) Farrell. He was raised in Lynn and graduated from Lynn Trade in 1966. Following graduation, Joe worked at Pratt & Whitney until 1970 and at Unique Carbide from 1970-1972. He then worked as a Machinist in the Aircraft Division at General Electric, for over 34 years, retiring in 2007. He was a proud member of the IUE-CWA, Local 201 Union and was a Shop Steward. Joe also worked as a lobsterman aboard the “Dawn Marie” from 1974-1999 and was a member of the Atlantic Lobsterman’s Co-Op, serving as their Vice President for 6 years. He was a former coach and Assistant Athletic Director at St. Mary’s High School in Lynn for over 30 years and was inducted into their Varsity Club Athletic Hall of Fame in 2020. He coached CYO and AAU basketball and soccer for Lynn Youth Soccer for many years. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Valladolid Council 70, Lynn, the Winthrop Elks and of the Winthrop Yacht Club. He enjoyed sailing and fishing and “Martini Tuesdays”. He looked forward to his Thursday visits with his friend Joe Waldron and hanging out with his good friends, Dave Joyce, Carmen Amico and fellow coaches from St. Mary’s.

In addition to his wife Donna, Joe is survived by his loving daughters, Dawn Marie Ross and her husband Robert of Lynn and Jodi Farrell-Canizaro and her husband James of Fort Lauderdale, FL; his beloved grandchildren, Leo, Landon, Mackenzie and Madison; his sister Linda Russo and her husband Robert of Peabody; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marie and Joseph Petrillo, Paula and Stephen Rouse, Michael and Roberta Langlais, Rita Langlais, and Richard “Ricky” Langlais and his many nieces, nephews and family at St. Mary’s.

A Funeral will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 9a.m. from the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rt. 129), Lynn, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary Church, Lynn at 10a.m. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 4-8p.m. Donations in Joe’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s High School, 35 Tremont St., Lynn, MA 01902.
