Evelyn M. VanGilder, age 94, of Orrville, formerly of Rittman, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Orrville Nursing and Rehabilitation, following a period of declining health.

Evelyn was born on April 29, 1930, in Rittman, Ohio, to the late Edgar and Bernice VanGilder. She graduated from Rittman High School with the class of 1948 and went on to enjoy a successful career as a Customer Representative for General Motors, where she worked for 33 years before retiring in 1990.

Evelyn’s life was marked by a love for travel, attending concerts in the park, basking in the sun on her deck, and indulging in her passion for reading and shopping. She cherished the time spent with her family, especially during birthdays and holidays.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Michelle (Rich) Mast of Orrville; three grandchildren, Shanna (Doug) Hart of Willoughby, Cory (Jenny) Wilson of MI, and Cody Mast of Barberton; five great grandchildren, Alexis, Ty, Avery, and Harper Wilson all of MI, and Max Hart of Willoughby; sister-in-law, Ida VanGilder of Stow; and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, James VanGilder; her ex-husband, Joe Garnes; and her special friend, Carl D. Rice.

In accordance with Evelyn’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and burial of her cremated remains will be at Rittman Cemetery.
