Barbara Joy Cromer Kahn, nee Cromer, age 98.  Beloved wife of the late Sanford; cherished mother of Marty (Marla), Larry (Millie), and Dan (Joan) Kahn; adored grandmother of Samuel, Julia (Himanshu), Ari, Sonia (Nick), Ben, Yair (Tiferet), Michael (Liraz), Avital (Ohad), Rachel (Shimon)and Gilad (Shira) and 16 great grandchildren; dear sister of the late Richard and Alan Cromer; fond aunt of Burton, Tom, David and the late Michael Cromer.   There will be a memorial service at Sedgebrook, where Barbara lived, 890 Audubon Way, Lincolnshire on Monday August 19th, at 2 PM at the Worship Center. Barbara was born in Miami, Florida and spent most of her life in Chicagoland.  She attended Hyde Park High School and the University of Chicago, where she met her husband Sandy Kahn.  She lived most of her adult life in Wilmette.

Barbara and Sandy were always active in community affairs. They were a founding family of Beth Hillel synagogue in Wilmette.  Barbara was president of its Hadassah chapter. Their house at the corner of Locust Road and Wilmette Ave hosted a steady stream of friends and relatives, and was the site of countless parties, family gatherings, and celebrations over the decades.  

In 2008, Barbara and Sandy moved to Sedgebrook, an independent living community in Lincolnshire. Barbara was soon elected President of the Jewish Council where she expanded the activities of this group. These activities included a semi-weekly Shabbat community dinner.  Sanford was soon diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. Barbara did an extraordinary job of making his life comfortable until his death in 2015.

Barbara was going to the Sedgebrook Bistro for meals and attending events until days before her death, following a short period of decline.
