Roger W. Hicks Obituary

ASHTABULA – Roger W. Hicks, 83, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Jefferson Healthcare following an illness of Parkinsons and Dementia.


He was born on August 16, 1941 in Langley, KY, the son of Alfred and Amanda (Bailey) Hicks. He moved to Ohio with his parents at a young age and was raised in Kenton, OH. As a young man, he moved to Ashtabula in search of work. He married Ella (Akers) on July 9, 1960 in East McDowell, KY and they settled in Ashtabula to establish their home. During his life, he worked for Reliance Electric for 21 years and Brobst Maintenance, retiring in 2005.


He enjoyed listening to country music, singing, watching Western movies, and playing his harmonica. His favorite singers were Hank Williams, Sr. and Charlie Pride.


His survivors include his wife of 64 years, Ella Hicks; his two daughters, Barbara R. (Jim) Reeve of Windsor and Sandy R. (Dave) Moree of Collinsville, MS; and four grandchildren, Ben (Fidelia) Reeve of Windsor, Andy (Alyssa) Reeve of Boardman, Brittany (Justin) McEachern of Brandon, MS, and Jessie Armstrong of Mandeville, LA.


He was preceded in death by his parents and many brothers and sisters.


Calling hours will be held from 11AM – 1PM with a service to follow at 1PM on Friday, August 23, 2024 at the ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula. His nephew Chris Dudley will officiate. Burial will follow at Ridgeview Cemetery.


The family would like to thank Homer and Oma Dudley, Bella Care Hospice, and the staff of Jefferson Healthcare for all of their care and support.
