Valarian Francis Weiss Obituary

Age 89 of South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, died Thursday, August 15, 2024, in the Palliative Care Unit at the Milwaukee VA. Larry was born on June 4, 1935, on the family farm in Rockfalls, WI. He was the son of Leonhart "Leo" and Emma (Bauer) Weiss. Larry attended the Whiteblock School in Rockfalls and graduated from Durand High School, Durand, WI. After graduation he joined the US Air Force where he served honorably for four years.

Larry married Carolyn L. (Metz) Weiss on January 17, 1958. They resided in South Milwaukee where they raised their family. Larry loved spending time with his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed bowling, which he earned many trophies, rings and watches; he also loved to golf and play baseball/softball. Larry loved to play cards with his very large family, it was a bit of a sport to them, and he hated to lose. According to the nurses at the VA he was very good at bean bags, and he beat them every time.

Larry is survived by his children, Val, Terry (Lori) and Kelly, six grandchildren, Amy (Matt) Hay, Ryan (Kayla), Lindsey, Lucas (Regina), Samantha (Paul) Santi and Tony (Haley) Warshany; nine great-grandchildren, Shane, Camden, Charlotte, Addison, Nolan, Julian, Emma, Blaire and Revan, sisters-in-law, Doris Weiss, Mary Lou Weiss, brothers-in-law Wayne (Maryanne) Metz and Raymond Metz, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Carolyn, and siblings Gilbert, Lorena Brantner, Gerald, Vernon, Norman, Delores Bauer, Darlene Bryan and Phillip in infancy.

To all the doctors, nurses, clergy, staff and volunteers at the Milwaukee VA, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for all your time, energy, and effort that you devoted to making sure our beloved father was comfortable and cared for throughout his illness. Your gentle, compassionate care made such a difference in our father's life. We will forever be grateful.
