Dottie B. Gilbert, age 85 of Monroe, died Saturday, August 10, 2024 in her home after a valiant battle against pancreatic cancer.

Born February 25, 1939, in Washington D.C., she was the daughter of Joseph Barrett and Lucile (Tyler) Barrett. She grew up in Arlington, VA., graduating from Washington-Lee High School in 1957. She then attended Strayer Business College and was employed by Sears for 15 years. Dottie married Dan A. Gilbert on June 2. 1984, in Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia. Dottie and Dan have resided in Monroe since 1991.

Dottie enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, travel, and volunteering for animal welfare groups. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

As Dottie wished, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or local services. A private memorial service will be held for family and friends at a later date at National Memorial Park in Falls Church, Virginia.

Surviving are her beloved husband, Dan; daughter Jody (Duane) Hadley, Louisville, KY; stepsons David Gilbert, The Woodlands, TX, Todd (Wendy) Gilbert, Jacksonville, FL; sister Susan (Fred) Runyon, Ashland, KY; and 4 grandchildren: Sarah, Samuel, Molly, and Lilly.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dottie’s memory may be made out to Friends of Companion Animals in Monroe.
