Doris Mae Cox was born April 26, 1927, to Eugene T. Sims, Sr. and Hannah M. Sims in Murphysboro, Illinois. She earned a business accounting degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois. On January 21, 1950, Doris married the love of her life, Delbert R. Cox who preceded her in death on March 17, 2013. She worked as an administrative assistant at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis Missouri. Doris and her husband Del adopted two children, daughter Deb and son Tom. She committed her daily life to God. Doris devoted her life to her family as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She chose to stay home and raise her children. During this time, she served as the school clinic nurse at the elementary her children attended. As her children grew, she returned to the work force. She worked as a tax preparer at H&R Block and was licensed to practice before the IRS. She later worked as an administrative assistant for The Patriot Defense Missile Project at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. Doris had a passion for entertaining. She hosted countless church dinners and weddings for family and friends. She loved music and had a beautiful voice. She performed many solos and duets in the church chorus. She is survived by her children Deborah Ashby (James) and her son Thomas Cox; sister, Virginia Sims; grandchildren, Christopher Haneline (Ashlee), Heath Cox and Heather Douglas (Oscarr); greatgrandchildren, Liam Jacob Haneline, Tylee Elizabeth Cox, Odynn Bru Douglas and Ember Rhea Douglas. She is preceded in death by her grandson Jacob S. Haneline, brother Eugene T. Sims Jr. and sister Rosemary Neal.
