Marian Steffens Obituary

Marian Steffens died peacefully on August 10, 2024. She was born in 1935 in Brooklyn, NY, the fifth of the six children of John and Eva Steffens. Her faith took root in Little Flower Parish in Flatbush Brooklyn where she attended grammar school. After graduation from Catherine Mc Auley HS, Marian entered the convent of the Sisters of Mercy of Brooklyn.

Marian’s vocation was to be a teacher. She was trained by her community and educated at St. Francis College. She taught many years in the Catholic Dioceses of Brooklyn. She furthered her education at Hunter College, and also taught in NYC Public Schools. She loved living in Brooklyn, teaching and bringing God’s love to all, with joy, laughter, and song.

Marian is survived by Dorothy Steffens Guiheen, Jean Steffens (Sr. Marian of the Angels), Walter Schwer, Christine Steffens and eighteen (18) nieces and nephews and their growing families. She is predeceased by her parents John and Eva Steffens, Rosemary Steffens Schwer, Evelyn Steffens and Al Rein, Patrick Steffens and John Guiheen.

Her ministry, to bring Jesus to marginalized communities, continued throughout her life. While her health suffered in later years, she was lovingly cared for by the staff of Coler Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center.
