Dr. Uwe T. Fetzer, 89, of Summerville, SC, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2024, in the comfort of his home.

Funeral services will be Sunday afternoon, August 11, 2024, at 4 pm in Parks Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the charity of your choice.

Dr. Fetzer was born December 9, 1934, in Stuttgart, Germany. He is the son of Johann Karl Fetzer and Ruth Fetzer-Holzaepfel. He enjoyed a long career in chemistry with Bayer AG, Germany. His positions there enabled him to travel and live in various places around the world. One of the most life-changing of these was the three years spent in India. A few years after the family’s return to Germany, Dr. Fetzer was relocated to Charleston to become Director of Manufacturing for Mobay/Bayer based in Charleston, and he retired from Bayer in 1990.

A man with many interests, Dr. Fetzer stayed busy throughout his life. His intellectual curiosity knew no bounds and he loved science and philosophy. He also enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife Irmi, gardening, electronics, building his own computers, and flying his flight simulator to new and previously visited places. He was a Renaissance Man who will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Dr. Fetzer is survived by his sons Marco Fetzer of Tuggen, Switzerland and Dr. Oliver Fetzer of Rancho Santa Fe, California; seven grandchildren scattered between California and Germany; and three great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Irmengard Fetzer.
