Guiron — Shizue Ishihara Guiron, age 87, of Atlantic Beach, Florida passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at her residence. She was born in Mindanao, Philippines on April 25, 1937, to the late Tsuta Ishihara and Anunciacion Torres. After World War II, the family was re-patriated to Japan, where Shizue and her siblings were raised. After high school, Shizue worked on a military base in their secretarial department until meeting her future husband, Vicente Guiron. In 1965, Shizue and Vicente journeyed to Las Vegas, Nevada where they exchanged vows and started their adventure together as husband and wife. Their life together led them to various places including Alameda, California; Mayport, Florida; Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Rota, Spain before they settled in Atlantic Beach, Florida which they called their forever home since 1976.
After settling in Atlantic Beach with her husband Vicente, Shizue pursued careers where her natural compassion and nurturing nature shone brightly. She worked as a Nurse’s Aide and Housekeeper at Beaches Hospital. After leaving Beaches Hospital, she devoted herself to caring for the elderly both at a nursing home and as a private home health aide. Later, she dedicated herself as a Housekeeper at Ponte Vedra Inn and Club, where she continued to touch lives with her commitment to hard work and kindness.
Cooking and baking were among her passions. In addition to her professional and culinary pursuits, Shizue was known for her artistic abilities. A recognized local artist in her hometown back in Japan, in America she expressed herself creatively through crocheting and needlework, which now create beautiful memories through her art.
Shizue was truly selfless, sacrificing much throughout the years so that she could give to and help others. She took great pride in being a devoted homemaker, lovingly raising her children and later, her granddaughter Victoria. More than anything, Shizue was devoted to her family, was greatly loved and will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her parents Tsuta Ishihara and Anunciacion Torres; loving husband of 37 years Vicente Guiron; and sisters, Nellie Tankersley and Fumi Danque.
Shizue is survived by her loving children, David Guiron and Shirley “Sunny” Guiron, both of Atlantic Beach, FL; brother, Toshio (Hiromi) Ishihara of Japan; granddaughter Victoria (Brandon) Prough; and Granddog, Bruce; along with several extended family members and friends.
A Celebration of Shizue’s Life will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Beaches Memorial Park Chapel with Father Joseph Jacob officiating. Family will receive friends an hour and a half prior to the service in the chapel. The arrangements are under the care and direction of V.
