It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward Earl Rainey, a beloved husband, devoted father, and cherished member of our community. Ed passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 4th, 2024.
Ed was born on November 27th, 1951 at Douglass Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas to James and JRutha Rainey.
He attended Quindaro Elementary School, Northwest Middle School and was a 1969 graduate of Wyandotte High School.
Upon graduating, he attended the University of Kansas and National American University. His achievement as Suma Cum Laude presented him with the opportunity to speak on behalf of his graduating class.
Today we are remembering Ed and the great memories we share of him. His courage and resourcefulness are reflected in the goals, dreams and tremendous struggles accomplished during his time on this earth. He was a devoted husband and companion, compassionate father, kind grandfather, loving brother, thoughtful uncle, considerate cousin and genuine friend. He was one of a kind, and an incredible man. He provided for his family and made sure his children had the guidance they needed.
He lived a life full of love, compassion, and dedication. He was a steadfast partner to his wife, Cheryl, whom he loved dearly. Their 47 years of marriage were filled with joy, laughter and an unwavering commitment to one another. Together, they created a loving home and a legacy of love that will continue to inspire.
As a father, Ed was a pillar of strength and a source of endless love. He was a devoted and caring father to Donnie (Rebecca), Evette (Troylando) and Evyonne (Rashid), always putting their needs before his own and guiding them with wisdom and kindness. His children and wife will forever cherish the lessons he imparted, the love he showed, and the memories they created together.
Ed was known for his generosity, warm heart, unwavering support for family, friends and his love for fishing . He touched the lives of many with his kindness and was always there to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. His sense of humor, infectious smile, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Ed would always strive to be of help, never missing an opportunity to be of assistance when needed. When a commitment was made to someone or something, no matter the cost or personal sacrifice, he gave it his all.
In addition to his immediate family, He is survived by his brother, Danny Rainey Sr., his sister Ruthie Rainey, his grandchildren Rishon, Leilani, Jireh, Alana, Jaylon, Amaya, Bryce and Roman and a host of relatives and friends.
